ADDRESS:
RE: Pittwater 21 – Avalon
DATE:______________
On behalf of ________________________________
I wish to register our objections to the overdevelopment of the unique
village of Avalon and the surrounding areas of the Barrenjoey Peninsula.
We submit to Council the following points which we ask you to incorporate
into Pittwater 21.
- Adopt a Barrenjoey Peninsula population
ceiling cap to stop further population increases, due to the serious
effects of cumulative impact that recent overdevelopments have had on
the community and on our threatened species.
We ask Council to view the Barrenjoey Peninsula as being like an island,
an area worthy of protection from any further overdevelopment.
- We urge Council to prosecute breaches, non-compliances,
illegal tree removals, Species Impact Statement frauds and “mistakes”
to the maximum penalties, requesting National Parks to do the same (1985
+ 1998 to present date).
- We ask for a Comprehensive Koala Management
Plan as a matter of utmost urgency.
- We object to the proposal to zone all of
North Avalon for dual occupancies. The Community wants Avalon and its
native trees to be protected and preserved for threatened species.
- Please list koalas and threatened species,
loss of wildlife corridors and loss of habitats as issues before the
Court and appoint expert witnesses to defend these critically important
issues.
- 8 part tests / Species Impact Statements
should be done over 4 seasons not one or two nights. As accuracy is
such a problem, species Impact Studies should be carried out by a specialist
who is NOT employed by the developer. Please appoint Prof. Rob Close
of University of Western Sydney – Koala expert to give his recommendations
and oversee the studies to be carried out under his control.
- We urge Council to rename Dunbar Park to
Barrenjoey Koala Sanctuary and for the park to be planted with Grey
Gums, Swamp Mahoganies and Spotted Gums with a new wildlife corridor
planting to extend from Dunbar Park to Bangally Headland, Stapelton
Park, Paradise Beach, Clareville Beach, the Wentworth Estate, Attunga
Reserve and the Bilgola Bends. We ask Council to purchase the marble
koala sculpture by Richard Stutchbury for $5,000 to be on permanent
public display at the entrance of Dunbar Park ‘Barrenjoey koala
Sanctuary’ with a small educational display board which explains
the plight of the Barrenjoey Koalas 93% reduction in numbers and how
the Community, Council and Natural Heritage Trust are helping to rescue
them from the threat of extinction.
- Please amend Pittwater 21 for Avalon to
include each and every one of these points.
