RE:   No more Units in Avalon Beach Endangered Species Sanctuary

FROM:

ADDRESS:

The Hon Bob Carr,

In support of Pittwater Council's application for SEPP5 exemption we urge you to exempt Avalon / Barrenjoey area from SEPP5 as a matter of urgency because:

  1. Pittwater Palms Retirement Village in Avalon Beach has had vacancies for years.

  2. SEPP5 is unwanted overdevelopment of residential bushland blocks in Avalon.  We are asking for official protection of the Barrenjoey Koalas and Squirrel Gliders critical habitat, all Eucalypt, Corymbia, Angophora and Casuarina trees on the Barrenjoey peninsula.

  3. Avalon has threatened species which are not being properly considered and due process is not being followed.

We request as a matter of utmost urgency amendments to SEPP44 Koala Habitat Protection to consider areas less than one hectare where cumulative impact is a major threat to the future survival of the Barrenjoey koala colonies.

We also request that Mr Brian Gilligan, Director General National Parks and Wildlife Service officially identify the critical habitat of the Barrenjoey Koalas and Squirrel Gliders.  These include the above mentioned trees in the entire 2107 postcode area.
